The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Argillières 1er Cru has a relatively light yet well-defined nose with red berry fruit, touches of rose petal and incense that emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and a sweet core of dark cherry and graphite notes. It is linear in style with an almost Morey-like tannin structure towards the finish. Decent substance for the vintage with admirable sapidity. I think this will develop into a really absorbing and quite delicious Nuits Saint-Georges. This actually shows much better than out of barrel. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Vines on pink Prémeaux limestone. 30% whole bunch. Cask sample. Mid cherry. Red-berry fruits, with some darker blueberry and cassis. A touch of bramble and undergrowth add definition. Really quite succulent. Youthful, firm and lithe. The palate is round with great freshness. (MH)
Full and sweet and quite powerful. This certainly doesn’t taste like the produce of a meagre vintage! Lots of structure – quite an ambitious wine. (JR)
