Quite smoky with some coffee, this is quite a dry, firm wine, but thereâs good cassis there, too, and it emerges slowly with aeration. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc. Better from 2021.

The 2016 La Bridane is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with a nose of cassis, earth, cedar and tobacco with a waft of pencil lead. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant, fresh and soft.
The 2016 La Bridane has an understated bouquet with blackberry and boysenberry fruit, not complex but nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet core of black fruit, hints of salted liquorice and cedar towards the nicely proportioned finish. Very fine. Tasted at the Oenoconseil tasting room in Bordeaux.
Dark blackish ruby. Sweet, evolved nose. This seems much less callow than most 2016s. Very winning already but not very obviously St-Julien; less structured. You have to look carefully for the tannins. Big ripe fruit. Maybe just a bit too smooth and low in acid...? (JR)
