Punteggio 85/100 · Da bere 2026-2031, Neal Martin, Feb 2026

The 2023 Château du Moulin Rouge has a rather dull nose that just needs more vitality and freshness. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and better acidity than expected. I like the balance here and the smoothness on the finish, but it is just the aromatics that let down this wine. Could have been better.

Cru bourgeois supérieur. 50% Merlot, 40 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc on gravel hills. Aged for 1 year in oak barrels (one-third new). Deep crimson. Openly aromatic with black and dark-red fruit and even a touch minty – on a spectrum between minty and leafy. Firm, smooth tannins, all in balance with plenty of freshness. GV for a classic, almost-ready bordeaux. (JH)

The 2023 Château du Moulin Rouge has a cohesive nose with red fruit, mocha and light earthy scents. Again, it lacks some brightness. The palate has sharp tannins on the entry. This is a mid-weight Haut-Médoc that attenuates sharply on the slightly bitter finish. So-so.

Lucie and Geoffrey are the 13th generation of the Ribeiro family at this estate, located in Cussac Fort Médoc. Shows grip and fresh acidities from the first moment, with leafy raspberry, turmeric and black pepper spice, concentrated and savoury, flirting with full ripeness. Higher Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend than usual. 50hl/h yield.
