Inky ruby. Dark berry preserves, cola and black olive on the highly perfumed nose. Juicy, penetrating and pure, with deep blackberry and cherry compote flavors and a spicy topnote. Silky tannins give shape to the finish, which strongly repeats the cherry note.

The black/purple-colored 2010 Cornas exhibits notes of licorice, steak tartare, spring flowers, blackberries, cassis and powdered rock. Full-bodied, moderately tannic, and in need of 2-3 years of bottle age, it should last for 15+ years. Impressive wines from Cornas as well as the emerging appellation of St.-Peray have been produced by Stephane Robert. All three of the 2010 Cornas are brilliant examples of wines from this bucolic appellation sitting in a natural amphitheater (largely decomposed granite and gravel) with exceptional terroirs and expositions for most of its vineyards. Opaque purple. Spice- and violet-accented scents of dark berries, cherry cola and olive tapenade. Textbook syrah, offering deep, sweet cassis, blueberry and Indian spice flavors, along with an exotic note of candied violet. The tannins mount slowly on the spicy, sweet, very persistent finish. I suspect that this nicely balanced wine will be approachable soon after release.
