The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Les Carrières 1er Cru has a slightly more extroverted, higher-toned bouquet than its peers and delivers a scintilla of cassis, though not so much that it dominates the pure strawberry and raspberry scents. With aeration, a hint of pressed iris imparts more complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, extremely well-judged acidity, a satiny texture and a pixelated finish that immediately beckons you back for another sip. This is extremely fine, and as I intimated in my barrel assessment, it has "learned some manners" and is evolving into an exuberant and quite delicious wine. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Cask sample. Deep cherry red. Much riper fruit than the Clos Le Village – more damson than red fruit. Almost a little raisined (the sample?). Juicy and gentle in structure, just a little lacking in freshness of fruit, though the acidity is adequate. (JH)
The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Carrieres, which like the Les Fuées was 100% de-stemmed, exhibited a touch of over-ripeness on the nose, just a touch mind you—fig and prune aromas tincturing the precocious black fruit. The palate is ripe and energetic on the entry, a bold and upfront Chambolle-Musigny that fans out nicely, offering a grippy, feisty finish. It needs to learn a few manners by the time it is bottled and if so, then it could turn out to be a delicious, if rather exuberant Chambolle. Let's see.
