Note di degustazione
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Goulots 1er Cru, which Leroux told me is one of the last to be picked, does not quite convey the purity of the Les Champeaux at the moment, although there is a touch of reduction. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, slightly chalky tannin, quite linear in style, but needs more substance on the finish.

30% whole bunch (whole bunch less common in Gevrey because the bunches tend to be bigger thanks to the mass selection over many years by the local nurserymen in the past). Like Gevrey La Perrière, this vineyard was also once an old quarry. A very small climat. Higher site and next to the forest. Older mother rock gives more finesse like Griottes compared with Chambertin, opines Leroux. Barrel sample. Mid cherry red. Tangy and much more red-frutied than Champeaux. Very different. Juicy and mouth-watering, clearly from a cooler site. Pretty and sweet/sour red cherry. Lively and excitable. Has depth and length and a delicate freshness. Remarkable length for its delicacy. (JH)
