The 2013 Morey-Saint-Denis Cuvée des Allouettes has more presence and vigor on the nose than the Cuvée des Grives. It displays darker fruit, Earl Grey and traces of wild mint/garrigues. The palate is fresh and medium-bodied with firm tannins. It's a bit sinew toward the finish, but there is fine length. Drinking perfectly now, but it will hold up well for another decade.

The 2013 Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Allouettes has a fragrant nose erring more toward red fruit such as wild strawberry and raspberry. It is well defined and pure. The palate is very well balanced with a keen line of acidity, harmonious and poised with a mineral-rich finish. This is so good that frankly, it is not that far behind Ponsot's Grand Crus in 2013.
Vines from within Clos de Mont Luisants, surrounded by grands crus. Mid to deep crimson. Pretty, relatively light nose. Really quite racy and much more lifted than the Chambolle Charmes. Fine and quite delicate but just a little austere. (JR)

Domaine Ponsot is one of the most well-known estates in the Côte de Nuits, famed for owning three of the original four hectares of the Clos de la Roche Grand Cru. The legendary domaine also produces another nine Grand Cru cuvées.
