Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2019-2025, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Jun 2019

The 2017 5V is a white blend from the five varieties they cultivate in their vineyards. It's from a year marked by terrible frost and a lack of rain, which resulted in low yields and an accelerated ripening of the grapes and, thus, the earliest harvest here, as they started on September 16th. It fermented in French barriques, where it matured for five months. The blend in 2017 was guided by what grapes were available, as frost killed a good percentage of the crop. As you can imagine, he had more Viura, which is the main ingredient in the blend, then a little Malvasía, and as he didn't bottle the pure Tempranillo Blanco, Garnacha Blanca or Torrontés, the grapes he had went to this blend. Some bunches were riper and others greener. The result is surprisingly good and follows the style he aims for with this blend—elegant, subtle and clean. It has a more developed nose and is more approachable than the 2018, but I believe the 2018 will make a better wine with time in bottle. But again, this 2017 feels like a real triumph over the natural conditions of the year. The bottled wine is 13.5% alcohol and has good acidity and moderate pH. 4,254 bottles were filled in April 2018.
