Note di degustazione
Another solid effort from this label—under the same management as Chateau Sixtine—the Cuvee du Vatican 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape is an assemblage of 63% Grenache, 18% Mourvèdre, 16% Syrah and 3% other permitted varieties, all matured in a mix of concrete tanks, large foudres and older barriques. Scents of cherries, raspberries and espresso mark the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is solid and sturdy, nicely concentrated and satisfying.

Sweet, fresh cherries, and kirsch with supple-textures, medium-bodied, soft, elegant and fresh. You can enjoy this with pleasure on release. Drink from 2024-2030.
The 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Du Vatican is also solid, with juicy redcurrants and darker cherry fruit to go with a medium-bodied, peppery, spice, elegant, nicely balanced profile on the palate. I like its overall balance, and it should have 7-8 years of prime drinking.
The 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Vatican is a big step up from the entry-level Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Fragrant violet, black cherry, forest strawberry and blueberry aromas emerge, followed by a splash of menthol and licorice. The palate is remarkably fresh, which is supported by high levels of acidity and alcohol at 14.5%. Medium to full-bodied, this 2021 red is framed by ever-so-smooth tannins and finishes remarkably elegant. It will be approachable early on but has all that’s needed for extended bottle aging.
