The Ferrari 2015 Trento Metodo Classico Extra Brut Giulio Ferrari Riserva del Fondatore (disgorged in 2024) is a beautiful Chardonnay-based sparkling wine with an everlasting sense of energy and exuberance that comes directly from the quality of fruit harvested in this warm (but not too hot), exceptional vintage. There is acidity and energy in this wine, and given that we are drinking it 10 years after the harvest, it hits all the right marks. Production is 60,000 bottles.

This wine, the most prestigious, has not yet been released and was somehow missed out of the package sent ahead for my tasting so Camilla got going on her iPhone and this bottle was biked in from the Savoy where they have a dinner tonight. This 2015 will be released soon; 2013 and 2014 have been tough years and there was no 2011. Extra Brut. Smoky notes of cumin! (But no oak ageing.) Very delicate and crisp. Yet with broad fruit underneath. No one could object to this. Real energy here. (JR)
