Based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 12 months in 50% new French oak, the 2023 Château Haut Beauséjour has juicy cherries, mulberries, leather, and smoky tobacco nuances on the nose. It's medium-bodied and balanced on the palate, with good mid-palate depth and the softer, supple tannins of the vintage. I like its overall balance, and it will shine over the coming 15 years. There are roughly 1,667 cases produced. Drink 2026-2040.

The 2023 Haut-Beauséjour is a bold, savory wine. Dried herbs, tobacco, licorice and menthol race across the palate. Virile and a touch somber, this deceptively mid-weight Saint-Estèphe packs quite a punch. There's a lot of wine here.
The 2023 Haut-Beauséjour is a powerful, earthy Saint-Estèphe. It offers up a beguiling mix of wild cherry, tobacco, cedar, leather and scorched earth. I imagine the 2023 will always be a bruiser, but it is also quite attractive. It will make a fine bistro red.
Inky plum in colour, although the fresh acidities place the fruit character closer to grenadine, pomegranate and raspberry. Has finely grained tannins that add grip, needs to fill out a little over ageing. 50% new oak for ageing.
