The 2021 Chambertin Grand Cru was one of a handful of crus out of sorts from barrel but now in bottle, I am happy to report that it is a completely different wine. It has a delectable bouquet with beautifully defined red berry fruit, wild hedgerow and wilted rose petal that unfolds so delicately in the glass. The palate is fresh and vibrant with crunchy red fruit, crisp and saline. There is just a touch of soy in the background that lends it an almost Oriental finish. Very harmonious with a long and quite assertive ferrous finish, this is a fine and actually quite feisty Chambertin. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Chambertin Grand Cru is cut from a similar cloth to the Charmes-Chambertin (same source) and it's only slightly better, just a little more presence on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with dark berry fruit, cold black tea and a touch of greenness on the finish. This is disappointing.
