Lime leaf, preserved lemon and white pepper. This is more extroverted than the Tornatore Pietrarizzo Etna Bianco just tasted. Sharp, crisp acidity and some grippy bitterness on the palate. (JRL)

A certified organic wine, the 2019 Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Riserva Classico Villa Bucci reveals exceptional elegance in this balanced vintage. Fruit comes from a 5.5-hectare site with typical calcareous clay soils, and winemaking sees a combination of stainless steel for fermentation and neutral oak for aging. The bouquet opens to tropical fruit, preserved lemon, quince and pie crust. On second nose, you get hints of petroleum and white licorice over a mid-weight mouthfeel. Only 8,000 bottles were made in this vintage.
The 2019 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Riserva Villa Bucci Vintage Collection entices with a seductive blend of dried apricots, peaches, almond custard and sweet spice. This is silky smooth with a balancing core of stimulating acidity. Orchard fruits add further contrast toward the end. It finishes long, structured and full of tension while leaving a resonance of lemon pith and minty herbs to linger on. The 2019 is profoundly complex and balanced for a long and steady evolution. Bravo.
