The 1988 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru has a ferrous, mature bouquet with vestiges of freshness. Rustic and stalky compared to more recent vintages under Pierre Duroché, though not without charm. The palate is medium-bodied with fine acidity, fresh though admittedly not complex. Some dryness creeps in towards the finish, structured and foursquare. Drink soon. Tasted at the Clos de Bèze vertical at La Cobotte.
