Empty bottle 1,050 g. 95% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc. Château Pey La Tour – owned by Dourthe since 1990 – is located between Bordeaux and St-Émilion. Diverse soils: clay-limestone, small pebbles held in clay and sandy-clay. Alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks with one or two pumpovers a day. The wine spent 12 months in oak barrels, 28% of which were new, and a further 25 months in bottle. Winemaker Frédéric Bonnaffous. Natural cork. pH 3.64, RS 0.39 g/l. Exclusive to Waitrose. Available in up to 100 shops. Magnum for Christmas. Still-vigorous deep crimson. Well mannered, with signs of some good-quality oak. Dourthe are very proud of this, quite rightly. No desperate hurry to drink this. VGV (JR)

A solid Bordeaux Supérieur château that produces fabulous wines, the 2020 Château Pey La Tour Réserve Du Château has terrific notes of leafy herbs, leather, cedarwood, and both red and black fruits. This round, supple, medium-bodied 2020 has ripe, integrated tannins and the class to evolve nicely through 2030.
The 2020 Pey La Tour Réserve du Château is plump, juicy and very easy to like. Succulent dark cherry, chocolate, spice, licorice and dried herbs are all nicely amplified in this mid-weight, open-knit Bordeaux Supérieur.
