Dark red-ruby. High-pitched perfume of blackberry, bitter chocolate, violet and crushed stone accented by wild herbs and black pepper. Strong acidity gives shape and lift to the juicy black fruit and floral flavors. This very pure premier cru finishes with refined tannins and subtle saline minerality.

Bright, dark red. Deep aromas of blackberry, blueberry and minerals. Sweet and sappy but youthfully clenched, with a distinctly rocky character and serious medicinal reserve to the flavors of black fruits, licorice, leather and violet. Dense and long but the tannins are tough going today.
The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru les Corbeaux, from nearly 50-year-old vines located just outside the Clos de Fonteny, has a tightly wound, slightly more floral bouquet than the Vieilles Vignes, if not quite the same degree of intensity. The palate is structured, masculine and standoffish with a “correct” and foursquare finish that is just missing a little persistence at the moment.
