Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2025-2039, Jeb Dunnuck, Apr 2022

The 2019 Château Pierre De Lune comes from a tiny vineyard owned the former manager of Clos Fourtet, Tony Ballu. Based on 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in 50% new oak, it offers a ripe, slightly primary bouquet of darker cherries, mulberries, chocolate, and licorice, with more obvious minerality emerging with time in the glass. It's a big, powerful 2019 that brings a load of fruit, a rounded, layered mouthfeel, building tannins, and a great finish. It's a little gangly and unevolved, yet it's unquestionably impressive. Give bottles 3-4 years at a minimum, and it should still be drinking brilliantly in 2039.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Pierre de Lune comes galloping out of the glass with full-on notes of baked blackberries, boysenberries and prunes plus hints of aniseed, wilted roses, chargrill and dusty soil. The medium-bodied palate coats the mouth with expressive black fruit preserves, textured with chewy tannins, finishing with a refreshing herbal lift.
