Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2020-2026, Josh Raynolds, Feb 2017

Inky ruby. Vibrant, mineral-accented cherry and blackberry aromas are complicated by suggestions of cola, olive and cured tobacco. Energetic and juicy on the palate, offering sharply focused bitter cherry, cassis and floral pastille flavors and a spicy jolt of cracked pepper. Closes sappy, smooth and very long, displaying a lingering suggestion of candied cherry and gentle tannic grip.

Both of the Côte Rôtie releases are excellent wines. More approachable than the la Landonne, the 2014 Côte Rôtie Seigneur de Maugiron (100% Syrah aged in 30% new French oak) is still a beautiful wine. Black raspberry, olives, bay leaf and hints of bacon fat all emerge from this medium-bodied, supple, charming and rounded beauty. It's already drinking nicely, yet should evolve for a decade or more.

Brilliant violet. Expressive aromas of candied red and dark berries, along with suggestions of pungent flowers and smoky minerals. Sweet and seamless in the mouth, offering intense raspberry and blueberry flavors that become deeper and fleshier with air. Pure and focused, finishing with very good clarity, supple tannins and a suave, lingering floral pastille quality.
