Punteggio 16.5/20 · Da bere 2024-2035, Jancis Robinson MW, Jan 2024

Mosaic de La Garde is a limited edition of six bottlings of different combinations of grape variety and soil type, each with a different label painted by local artist Jean-Baptiste Besançon. This is Merlot on clay-limestone. Not as luscious on the nose as the Merlot on clay but notably more complete on the palate – lots of fruit distracts from the tannin. This seems very well knit and drinkable already. Really very fresh, fruity and long. Very satisfying and likely to become more so. (JR)

The 2020 La Garde has an attractive nose with brambly red fruit, briar and light wilted rose petal scents. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins but a little austere, with a fresh, sapid finish. This is fine, though it doesn't quite reach the high standard it did just after bottling. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. Grassy and ripe-citrus notes but a touch of stones, too. Tight and linear on the palate. A baby and needs time to unfurl. (JH)
