The 2017 Haut-Beauséjour was not affected by frost like much of Saint-Estèphe. There is good volume on the generous bouquet: blackberry, boysenberry, melted tar and just a hint of graphite. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, a rather foursquare and conservative Saint-Estèphe with an earthy, gritty finish. Not bad, although it needs a little more finesse.

37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 63% Merlot. Deep cherry. Fragrant black fruit. Juicy but not particularly deep on the palate (sandy soils). A light woody character and a little dry on the finish but still juicy and fresh. (JH)
The 2017 Château Haut-Beausejour is primarily Merlot, yet includes 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, all aged in one-third new French oak. Lively notes of black cherries, damp earth, and tobacco leaf all emerge from this medium-bodied, silky, lightly textured 2017 that comes up short on depth, yet has loads of charm.
