The 1971 Larcis Ducasse has a simple and slightly enervated bouquet with rustic red fruit, ferrous in style with strong scorched earth and leather aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with finer tannins than expected, good acidity, bay leaf and sage infusing the red fruit with just a bit of dryness coming in towards the finish. Fine, but drink soon. Tasted at the Larcis Ducasse vertical in Bordeaux.

Tasted from magnum, the 1971 Larcis Ducasse is intense and also quite bold, if a bit rough around the edges, with fully mature aromatics but enough palate density to drink well for another handful of years. Readers should expect a fully mature, rustic Saint-Émilion. All things considered, though the 1971 has held up well.
