Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2022-2042, Jeb Dunnuck, Nov 2022

Entirely composed of Pinot Noir, the 2012 Champagne Blanc de Noirs Les Beurys was vinified in small oak barrels, with malolactic fermentation blocked and no filtration. The nose is concentrated and vinous, with an assertive Pinot Noir character of hay, plummy fruit, broth, and ripe cherry. The palate is dry, with a rounded mousse and mid-palate, notes of Anjou pear, savory broth, and fresh orange peel, balanced salinity, and a long, clean finish. This unfolds and evolves with beautiful complexity in the glass. Drink over the next 15-20 years. Based in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay, Eric Rodez and his son Mickaël lead this Pinot Noir-focused estate today and mark the eighth and ninth generations, respectively, in their family of winegrowers. Biodiversity is highly prioritized at this estate. They have been certified organic since 2012 through HVE (High Environmental Value) and have had biodynamic certification since 2015 through the Demeter organization. Eric attributes his farming practices and especially soil management to his time spent in Alsace. He also worked at Krug from 1978 through 1984.

Disgorged in October 2019, the 2012 Brut Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru Les Beurys is showing very nicely, wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, mandarin oil, dried white flowers and blanched almonds. Medium to full-bodied, racy and incisive, with a concentrated and tightly coiled core that's underpinned by tangy acids, it's long and penetrating. This is one cuvée that stands out as having lots of upside.

Blanc de Pinot Noir on the Ambonnay /Trépail border. Single vineyard. Dosage 2 g/l. No malo. Pale gold. Heady, great attack. Really opens out in the middle with massive persistence. Lots of life ahead of it. (JR)
