Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2019-2024, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2017

Moderately saturated bright medium red. Aromas of raspberry, mocha and spices are a bit dulled by a note of reduction. Broad and quite dry, offering classic Morey-Saint-Denis notes of strawberry, mocha and brown spices. Finishes spicy but a touch dry-edged.

Bright crimson. Correct and fresh. Crackling, pure red burgundy. No shortage of fruit. Lots of tannins but great energy. (JR)

(from 50-to-60-year-old vines in Chenevery, Clos Solon and Les Porroux): Bright dark red. Sexy aromas of raspberry, minerals and spices. Juicy and brisk, still showing a touch of apple a few weeks after the end of the malolactic fermentation. Very dark flavors of black cherry, spices and menthol are nicely framed by ripe tannins. This wine was vinified with 15% whole clusters, according to Laurent, who noted that the Ligniers kept 15% to 20% whole clusters for their crus in 2014.

The 2014 Morey Saint-Denis Trilogie takes its name from the three vineyards it comes from, some 60% from Chenevrey. The vines average over 50-years-old. It has a lifted redcurrant and wild strawberry bouquet with a slight ferrous note, dried blood perhaps, lurking just underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly rustic tannin on the entry. There is good acidity, although it needs just a little more flesh to come through on the finish.
