Bright mid ruby. Evolved, savoury nose and very marked acidity. A wine with masses of texture and chew even if, arguably, a slight lack of juice on the mid palate. Rather uncompromising but admirable. (JR)

Brilliant ruby-red. A sexy, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red and dark berries, potpourri and smoky minerals, and a subtle hint of game emerges slowly. Juicy, impressively concentrated black raspberry, bitter cherry and violet pastille flavors tighten up and become spicier on the back half. Powerful but graceful, finishing very long, sappy and precise, with no rough edges and a repeating floral quality.
The 2014 Chenas Quartz Domaine Piron & Lameloise comes from handpicked grapes that are 50-70% destemmed and fermented in concrete tanks. It has a lifted dark cherry and black plum-scented bouquet with earthy tones that become more pronounced with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, sweet in the mouth but with a nagging green tincture that detracts from the finish. I will reserve judgement for now and revisit this in another 12 months.
