Punteggio 85/100 · Da bere 2022-2025, Neal Martin, Mar 2021

The 2018 Méaume offers light blackberry and tobacco scents on a nose that needs a bit more fruit intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, and slightly bitter on the finish, though it does have adequate freshness. Drink over the next 3–5 years.

The 2018 Méaume is a powerful, burly wine. A blast of dark red fruit, iron, blood orange and spice hits the palate first, followed by huge, imposing tannins. The 2018 has not come together as well as I had hoped. Today, it is decidedly rustic.

Black cherries, leafy herbs, earth, and subtle spice notes emerge from the 2018 Château Meaume, which is medium-bodied, with good fruit, some firm tannins, and a decent finish. Drink it over the coming 4-6 years. This is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.

The 2018 Meaume, 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, is a super-expressive, creamy Bordeaux Supérieur that delivers the goods. Powerful and also quite persistent, with terrific drive, the 2018 has a lot to recommend it. Iron, dried flowers, mint and sweet red cherry are nicely delineated. The 2018 is a bit firm, but that should be less of an issue once the wine is bottled.
