Note di degustazione
Cru bourgeois supérieur. 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc. Gravelly hilltop terroir. Yield 47 hl/ha. Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, one-third new. 90,000 bottles. Mid crimson. Very ‘correct’ nose. No dallying with New World notions and overt sweetness here! Tastes like a second wine of a classed growth, but is probably cheaper than them. GV for classicists? The 2020 Château du Moulin Rouge has dispensed with the greenness on the nose that I detected from barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, missing a little complexity but there is appreciable purity on the finish. It deserves a higher score.
Medium to full intensity, touch of drying oak, but there is a ton of charm here, and this is a thoroughly reliable Cru Bourgeois name in a good location as you drive up towards St Julien in Cussac-For-Médoc. Balanced, serious, subdued dark fruits, Haut-Medoc character, with slate and crayon tannic hold.
