Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2003-2009, Pierre Rovani, Jun 2003

The 2000 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux-St.-Jacques is an outstanding wine. Medium to dark ruby/purple-colored, it displays plum, spicy black cherry, and dark raspberry aromas. Dense, velvety-textured, and deep, this medium-bodied wine is concentrated, flavorful, and has superb mouth-feel. Layers of candied blackberries are found throughout its flavor profile and extensive finish. Drink it over the next 6 years. Lucien Le Moine’s 2000 reds have more flesh and texture than the majority of the wines from this vintage. While a few were too tight and tannic to recommend, the finest appear to be loaded with baby fat. This means they are delicious to drink in the near term, but may reveal leaner structures with cellaring. Concerning the 2000 reds, Saouma stated that it was a “very difficult vintage” in the Cote de Beaune. To achieve success in 2000 with reds, it was important to work the lees without adding sulfur and perform a long elevage.” Importer: Jeffrey Davies Signature Selections, West Nyack, NY; tel. Bright ruby-red. Perfumed, floral aromas of red cherry, spices and game. Silky on entry, then minerally, firm and focused, with strong acidity keeping the raspberry and gunflint flavors under wraps. A very young wine with lovely subtle persistence.
