2020 Clos de la Roche

The 2020 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a tightly wound bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, light oyster shells and potpourri scents that blossom in the glass. It has superb delineation, though not quite as complex as Castagnier's Clos Saint-Denis. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black fruit and touches of peppercorns and sage. It is slightly more rough-edged than its peers, but it retains focus, and there is real heft on the finish. Time will shave its edges. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
