Good bright, dark red. Musky aromas of dark raspberry and roast coffee. A step up in volume from the 1er Cru but with a silky texture to the tactile flavors of red raspberry, red cherry, crushed stone and smoke. Wonderfully pure, palate-saturating wine with very fine tannins and lingering sweetness. Dugat told me that this wine was deeper in color and more obviously structured in the early going, but today it's remarkably sexy if still very young.

Good full, bright red. Darker and more masculine on the nose than the 1er cru, offering black cherry, blackberry and crushed stone aromas (there's very little topsoil here). Silky on entry, then quite tight and imploded in the middle but already showing an ineffable spicy complexity to its dark fruit flavors. With its firm tannic spine, this is rather austere today, but its lingering perfume suggests that it will reward patience.
The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St. Jacques is a knock-out. Rich, dark and sensual, the Lavaux St. Jacques is full of fabulous scents of black cherries, freshly cut flowers, menthol and licorice, all of which are supported by firm, insistent tannins. The 2010 is a massively structured wine that will require considerable patience, but it is a stunner. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. (Not yet released) Claude Dugat’s 2010s are fabulous.
