A skilful job of gentle extraction, carefully managing a more challenging year than the others in this lineup of Amiral. There are wild strawberries on display, gentle tannins, smoked earth and undergrowth, charming, no need to wait, soft on the finish. 35% new oak for ageing.
The 2021 Amiral de Beychevelle has a lovely bouquet for a Deuxième Vin . Quite plush considering the vintage, it oozes with blueberry and blackberry fruit, quite fresh and floral—you might think it was a Margaux! The palate is medium-bodied with a vibrant entry and a slightly granular texture, while a keen thread of acidity leads to a bright and lively finish. Lovely. Drink this over the next decade.
The 2021 Amiral de Beychevelle has an attractive, well-endowed bouquet; in fact, I might prefer the aromatics here vis-à-vis the previous vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, lively red berry fruit and white pepper and clove on the finish, which delivers good length. A fine Deuxième Vin .

With greater care in the vineyard and more precision in the winery, Ch. Beychevelle's star is rising. That's in large part due to the leadership of Philippe Blanc and investment by current owners, Japanese brewers Suntory and French wine group Castel.
