The 2021 Couhins is a blend of 40% Merlot, 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot matured 16 months in barrels. This wine is a great surprise, offering up a gently reductive bouquet of smoke, iris, dark cherries, dark wild berries and licorice, typical of cool climates. Medium to full-bodied with a somewhat firm mid-palate, it’s perfectly balanced with a delightful core of fruit and a long, expressive and mineral finish enhanced by pencil lead and peony hints. Long and fleshy, it should age well in bottle over the next decade.

Attractive bright fruit on the nose, this has high floral notes that give it an appealing aromatic curl on the opening, but marked by acidity, with redcurrant, elderflower and tight slate tannins through the mid palate. Didier Forget director, Stéphane Derenoncourt consultant.
The white wine of Couhins is excellent in 2021, but the red is a little more impacted by the challenges of the vintage. Greengage and redcurrant fruits, careful extractions and soft tannins, but struggles to gain momuntrum through the palate.
