Succulent red plum, tobacco, mint and dried herbs all flesh out in the glass. Silky tannins and soft contours suggest the 2014 will drink well pretty much upon release. Soft, sensual and inviting, the wine is impeccably balanced from start to finish. I would prefer to drink it over the next decade, give or take.

The 2014 Taillefer is a delicious wine with plenty of near-term appeal. Mocha, sweet herbs, tobacco, plums and menthol are all laced together in an effortless, savory wine endowed with real class and nuance, especially at its level. The significant presence of Cabernet Franc in this Merlot-based blend is quite evident, particularly in the wine's intensely aromatic profile. Firm tannins support the long, expressive finish.
The Château Taillefer 2014 felt a little disjointed on the nose compared to its peers and took time to coalesce in the glass. It eventually melds together and serves up attractive black plum and mulberry scents mixed with dry tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin and well-judged acidity. It feels like an easy-drinking Taillefer (and that is not meant pejoratively), but rather a Taillefer comfortable in its own skin.
