Picked on 2nd September, this is a gorgeous Grand Cru Chablis. There’s a wash of seaspray, with mineral tones, and crisp green apple – verging on pear drops, with sherbet freshness and lime zest. It’s powerful and persistent on the palate with chalky minerality and oyster-shell purity, with the ripeness of the fruit coming through on the finish.

From the usual sources, their own and a regular contributor, vinified in barrel with minimal extraction. Now that they can pick the other part when they want, you no longer see two different wines in one. It certainly shows very gracefully on the nose. Much more harmonious, a little touch of liquorice along with ripe strawberry, a pleasing tingle to liven up the finish., very graceful, very persistent.

The 2022 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has quite a lively, effervescent bouquet with orange zest and quince aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft, creamy opening and plenty of tropical fruit. What is missing is a bit of acidic "bite,” particularly on the finish, but it has an approachable nature that will have broad appeal.

Frost protection over 12 nights of lighting candles was successful but stressful. Fermented in 500-litre barrels and no new oak. Recently racked off lees. Tank sample. Tastes like a really juicy, tasty Côte d’Or white rather than classic Chablis. Quite full-bodied. Good wine! Pear juice with a squeeze of lemon. Quite long. (JR)
