Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2025-2045, Jeb Dunnuck, Feb 2025

Based on 75% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon from clay-limestone and clay-silica soils, the 2022 Château Cap De Mourlin is beautifully complex and layered. It offers ripe red and black fruits, tobacco, crushed stone, and truffles. Medium to full-bodied, it has a pure, elegant mouthfeel with silky tannins and a seamless texture. It’s a brilliant wine with depth and refinement, as well as the new benchmark for this château.

Concentrated ruby colour and on the nose, smoky oak, liquorice, mandarin and bitter black chocolate, intense, spicy, a little overblown. 32.5hl/h yield, clay limestone soils, 12ha vineyard owned by the Capdemourlin family.

75% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. Inky crimson. Dark-fruited, almost a little tarry. Savoury, rich. There's both a stony Cab Franc note and a spicy rich Merlot character. I love the dark, dry effect here. Avoids all the fruit sweetness of the vintage and yet is packed with fruit. Firm tannins, just enough freshness. Powerful tannins are matched by deep fruit. (JH)

Silky, dark cherries, plums, cocoa, and espresso create the character here. The wine is creamy, elegant, round, lush and packed with deep, ripe, sweet fruits making this already a pleasure to taste.
