Dark crimson, one of the darkest in this mini-vertical of Lutzmannsburg Alte Reben. Riper vintage, apparently. Seductively ripe, dark but not overripe fruit. Savoury, dry, elegant and fresh. Refined, dry tannins are perfectly balanced with the warm, dark-red fruit. Spicy, smooth, leathery texture. Still a long way to go for this to reach its apogee. (JH)

The dark cherry-colored 2011 Blaufränkisch Lutzmannsburg Alte Reben opens somewhat reductive, but intense and elegant on the nose, displaying loads of cherry fruit aromas with some dashes of lemon juice. Smooth and silky textured on the palate, this intense and full-bodied wine has a nice finesse and freshness as well as a very good length. Superbly balanced, long and powerful, it has herbal aromas in the long and intensely juicy finish. Impressive and full of energy, intensity and vibrancy. This is full of finesse, although with highly ripe fruit. So silky and fresh.
