The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin La Perrière 1er Cru is rather monotone on the nose, lacking the complexity and amplitude one expects from a 1er Cru. Compromised by the growing season, I suspect. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins. It feels like more maceration was conducted for this particular wine, resulting in a rounded and smooth texture, though it just misses the tension and minerality you seek at this level. As such, it comes across as a little easy-drinking in style. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin La Perrière 1er Cru, which is 50% whole bunches (pédicelles) , has an open, earthy, slightly mulchy bouquet with light red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with granular tannins, more black than red fruit, very nicely defined though it just lacks a bit of length on the finish.
