Note di degustazione
Tasted at the La Romanée vertical at Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. The 1990 La Romanée Grand Cru, here labeled Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, has a light ruby core with some aging on the rim. The bouquet is quite attractive and clean adorned with strawberry, star anise and just a smear of orange sorbet. It opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a harmonious opening. The acidity is nicely judged here, just a touch of spiciness developing with age, flanked by white pepper and marjoram. It is quite austere for a 1990 but in a positive sense: more linear than many from this vintage. This is a decent La Romanée, a relief after the deplorable 1989, and it should continue drinking well for at least a decade. Tasted June 2015.

The 1990 La Romanée is super-expressive and very nicely balanced throughout. Ripe, pliant and voluptuous - yet never overdone - the 1990 epitomizes class. One of the more understated Burgundies readers will come across from this vintage, the Romanée is all grace, nuance and silkiness. Best of all, the 1990 remains fresh and capable of drinking well for another decade plus.
