Inky core. Sweet, dark and rich on the nose. Lots of creamy vanilla oak sweetness and a velvety texture. Very plush on the mid palate, not very St-Émilion, and a little hard on the finish. (JH)

Another excellent to outstanding effort from the Nony family, the 2011 Grand-Mayne offers up beautifully sweet raspberry and blueberry fruit intermixed with crushed rock-like notes as well as a jammy character (unusual in this vintage). Medium to full-bodied with a complete mouthfeel and sweet, but moderate tannins, this beauty can be enjoyed in several years or cellared for 12-15.
Heady and spicy. Bordeaux via Australia? Or perhaps California would be more appropriate. So perfumed and fruity. Rather too rich for my taste – decidedly new school. (RH)

The Nony family has been at the helm of this 17-hectare estate for three generations, since the 1930s, but it’s under Jean-Antoine – in charge since 2015 – that quality here has soared.
