Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2019-2029, Neal Martin, Apr 2019

The 1961 Malartic-Lagravière is certainly a fine contribution to the vintage. It has a heart-warming, beautifully defined bouquet with cedar, desiccated orange rind and brown sugar, nothing overly complex but composed and harmonious. The palate translates the richness of that growing season with quite a sweet core of fruit, raspberry and mulberry tinged with leather, the finish showing commendable delineation and focus. This is certainly worth keeping an eye out for as I suspect it is far less expensive than other 1961s. Tasted from ex-château magnum at the Académie du Vin dinner.

Sadly musty. Balsamic, dried fruit, a bit of game as well – but really too old overall. (RH)
