The 2020 Château La Couspaude is medium-bodied, firm, and a touch lean, with bright black cherry fruits, some cedary herb, floral, and graphite notes, medium body, ripe yet building tannins, and a good finish. It could use a touch more flesh, but I like its balance as well as its complexity. Give bottles 2-3 years and enjoy over the following decade.
The 2020 La Couspaude has a very ripe nose with black plum, raisin and violet scents, quite extrovert and just about retaining satisfying delineation. The palate is sweet on the entry and as I found out of barrel, the mid-palate is dominated by wood tannins that define the finish. Essentially, there is just too much winemaking and not enough wine in this Saint-Émilion.
The 2020 La Couspade is an attractive, nuanced Saint-Émilion. Crushed flowers, iron, white pepper, cedar, pipe tobacco and dried herbs give the 2020 lovely aromatic presence to play off its mid-weight structure. La Couspade is very nicely done.
