The 2022 Mâcon-Pierreclos Juliette Toute Seule made it into bottle, but it won't ever be sold commercially. I hesitated, therefore, to review the wine; but I think its quality and everything it implies for Burgundy's appellation hierarchy means that it merits recognition, even if readers will have to take my word for it. Bottled with only an anecdotal dose of sulfites, it unwinds in the glass with gently reductive aromas of pear, citrus zest and honeycomb mingled with hints of wheat toast, iodine and smoke. Full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's deep, pure and racy, with huge depth at the core and an almost interminable finish. To my palate, it's Guffens's finest 2022.

The 2022 Mâcon-Pierreclos Juliette et Les Vieilles de Chavigne comes from one of the highest parcels (up to 430m). These vines were planted in 2003. Matured in 50% new oak, the 2022 fulfills the promise I found last year from barrel. It's precise and more mineral-led than the Premiers Jus cuvée. The palate has exquisite balance, with hints of yellow plum, white peach and mango. The 2022 shows impressive density with not a powerful but rather a "voluminous" finish packed full of flavor. There's a sense of completeness here that I adore.
