Grand Cru Classé. Solid and with some lift – not bad at all,. Lively, racy, bloody. But a bit inky and new oaky… (JR)

Bright ruby-red. Cool aromas of currant, minerals, coffee and milk chocolate. Shows a family resemblance to the 2004, but this is less dense and more evolved, hinting at smoke and earth. Finishes with broad, dusty tannins.
The deep plum/ruby-hued 2002 offers up attractive scents of cigar smoke, dried herbs, red as well as black currants, and spice box. A rich attack is followed by an angular, austere finish. Anticipated maturity: now-2015.
An extraordinarily deep purple – quite unlike any other St Emilion – and over-ripe, almost like Patrick Valette’s El Principal from Chile in the same vintage. I much prefer the freshness of Berliquet’s 2001. Gentle tannins and well handled fruit, Pretty start on the palate but slightly rusty nails on the finish. It’s only the nose that is unappetising. The Chanel group – owners of Ch. Rauzan-Ségla and Ch. Canon – added Berliquet to their stable of wine estates in 2017. Since then, the team – led by Nicolas Audebert – has been transforming the property, gradually revealing this special Saint-Emilion site’s potential.
