Note di degustazione
The 2018 Lestage was tasted from two bottles. Oddly, the first bottle felt a little bretty and seemed to confirm my lukewarm reaction from barrel. Given that this was designated as one of 14 Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, I was perplexed. However, a second bottle opened a month later was far better, offering bright blackberry struck through with tobacco and pencil shavings on the well-defined nose, the palate lively if a little brittle, with a chalky-textured finish. This bottle was much more befitting of its status and more representative.

The 2018 Lestage does not quite convey the same harmony as some of its peers. It feels slightly pinched on the nose, although quite pure in style, featuring blackberry, briar and cedar aromas. The palate is better, displaying a firm grip on the entry. There is good weight on this sinewy Listrac-Médoc, but I have been parsimonious with my score as the finish is a little too dry for my liking.
