The 2014 Fourcas Hosten has a pleasant, clean bouquet that lacks the presence and concentration I expect from this decent vintage. It seems a little diffuse compared to, say, the 2012 or 2016. The palate is balanced with grainy tannins, and quite compact, leading to a bitter cherry and blackberry finish. It does not quite knit together as well as I was hoping, hence my prudent score.

Glossy, fragrant and open-knit. Full of flavour and with well-manicured tannin that is very moreish to drink now. Maybe a bit simple, but well formed otherwise. (RH)
Dark crimson. Quite a complex, layered nose. Then marked acidity, almost raw redcurrants on the palate. Austere and lacking a bit of charm. (JR)
