Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2029, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan 2025

A superbly spicy if still surprisingly primary nose combines a wide range of elements that include maraschino cherry, raspberry, lavender, violet, tea and sandalwood as well as a hint of herbal tea character. The super-sleek yet almost painfully intense and powerful big-bodied flavors are shaped by impressively fine-grained tannins on the youthfully austere finish where the power does a slow build from the mid-palate. This is still very young but it's not so backward that it couldn't in a pinch be approachable with an hour or so in a decanter. With that said, I would advise continuing to hold for another 5 to 8 years or so. Overall, this is very classy juice, indeed it's a Musigny of evident distinction.

Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2027-2045, Neal Martin, Vinous, Nov 2024

The 2017 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is the latest release from Mugnier. It has a beautifully defined bouquet with mineral-driven red berry fruit notes, sous-bois and hints of bell pepper in the background. There's plenty of freshness and transparency here. The palate is very well balanced with fine, gentle grip, linear style and a subtle pepperiness on the finish. This is a sublime Musigny that will drink earlier than other recent vintages.

The 2017 Musigny Grand Cru is very intense on the nose but shows complexity and terroir expression, offering stunning delineation and crisp red fruit and undergrowth scents. A touch of wild fennel emerges with time, but everything is perfectly controlled. The palate is finely proportioned, perfectly balanced and very pure, with gentle grip. The old purring Rolls-Royce engine here, though I observed it losing some of its initial flair with aeration. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.
