Note di degustazione
The 2018 La Gargone comes from just west of the Fronsac appellation. It is a blend of 60% Merlot, 20% Malbec, 18% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, weighing in with 14% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes bounding out of the glass with vibrant notes of fresh black and red cherries, boysenberries and ripe plums plus suggestions of cigar box, hoisin and star anise with a touch of bouquet garni. The medium to full-bodied palate has a chewy texture and bags of black fruit preserves, delivering just enough freshness to lift the earth-laced finish.

What can be thought of as a step up over the Caduce, the 2018 Domaine Du Bouscat La Gargone is a Merlot-dominated blend that includes 20% Malbec, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, all aged two years in barrel. This deep ruby/purple-hued 2018 has a rich, unevolved bouquet of spiced black fruits, plums, cedary herbs, and tobacco. Nicely balanced on the palate, it's full-bodied and delivers background oak, ripe yet polished tannins, and outstanding length. It needs 2-4 years to integrate its oak and should impress for a decade or so.
The 2018 La Gargone is a big step in this range from proprietor Jean-Pierre Dubernard. La Gargone deftly balances fruit richness and energy in a compelling Bordeaux Supérieur that hits all the right notes. Crushed flowers, red berry fruit, blood orange, mint and spice all race across the palate. Just as it was in barrel, La Gargone is a total pleasure bomb. Don't miss it.
The 2018 La Gargone possesses off the charts richness and intensity. Crème de cassis, licorice, spice, menthol and chocolate all jump out of the glass in this exuberant, flamboyant Bordeaux Supérieur. The inclusion of 20% Malbec adds to the wine's fruit intensity and juiciness. In 2018, La Gargone is a total pleasure bomb.
