The 1924 Cos d'Estournel comes from a golden era for the estate. Very impressive on the nose, it sprints out of the blocks with brambly red fruit, sous-bois and touches of mint that turn more cedar-like with aeration. Wonderful delineation. The palate is like the 1924 Pontet Canet, refined and elegant. Archetypal old school Claret with backbone on the finish, this centurion exudes Saint-Estèphe typicité and, judging by this encounter, is still inclined to dole out pleasure. Tasted at Olivier Bernard's "4" dinner at Domaine de Chevalier.
