Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2027-2046, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2026

Cassis, graphite, crushed stone, and spicy wood all emerge from the 2023 Château Péby Faugères, a smaller-production, special cuvée from the far eastern side of Saint-Emilion. Aged 12 months in 50% new French oak, it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with remarkable purity and fine tannins. It's concentrated without being massive, and the overall balance is spot on. It will benefit from short-term cellaring and keep for 20 years. It's another brilliant wine from this team that will compete with anything in the vintage. Drink 2027-2046.

The 2023 Péby-Faugères races across the palate, showing terrific articulation, detail and finesse. Floral and spice overtones weave through a core of dark red/purplish fruit. This is an especially refined vintage for Péby-Faugères, a wine that has always been incredibly distinctive but also quite pushed in its extraction.

Aromas of plums, elderberries, graphite, dark olives, chocolate and touches of blueberries and cedar. The palate is round and velvety, medium- to full-bodied, with excellent definition from chalky tannins and freshness that complements its seamless yet precise texture. Serious and harmonious. From organically grown grapes. Already enjoyable with some aeration, but needs at least a couple of years of cellaring. 100% merlot. Drink after 2027.
