(from a limestone-rich vineyard planted in 1962 and 1965, according to Merlin, who considers this to be "our best fruit"; began in 20% new oak but was racked back into older barrels in August of 2014 for another seven months of élevage ): Pale, bright yellow-gold. More refined on the nose than the La Roche-Vineuse Vieilles Vignes bottling, showing a cool white calcaire lift to the aromas of white peach and lemon zest. Suave and seamless in texture, with subtle fruit salad and stone flavors framed by nicely integrated acidity. Conveys an impression of more acidity and greater power than the La Roche Vineuse Vieilles Vignes but still graceful and pure if a bit youthfully restrained. Very successful for the year.
