The 1997 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Combottes is ruby-colored and reveals aromas of sweet red/black fruits dusted with talcum powder. Medium-bodied, this tangy, fresh, yet expansive wine displays briary blackberry and cassis flavors. It is silky-textured, elegant, and tightly wound. Projected maturity: 2000-2009. Importer: Wilson-Daniels, St. Helena, CA; tel (707) 963-9661.
Good full deep red. Reticent aromas of black raspberry, licorice and spice. Juicy, lively and firm in the mouth, with good backbone and bright acids. Ripe, dusty tannins build with aeration, but are supported by the wine's material.
